To make this card, I first laid out popsicle sticks onto a 5 1/2 by 5 1/2 card to see how many sticks I needed. When I had the sticks laid out how I wanted, I taped them together with scotch tape, and then glued them to a piece of scrap paper for added strength (you need to make the scrap paper small enough so that it doesn't show on the front of the sticks). I then stamped the elephant image from the Mulberry Wood set onto the front of the sticks using Staz On ink before coloring the image with my Sakura watercolors. When the watercolors were dry, I added a coat of matte sealer.
I wrapped some red and white bakers twine around the bottom of the popsicle sticks, taping the ends to the back, adding a bow to the front for some visual interest. I layered some scrap Recollections red, green, and blue geometric floral patterned paper on top of some red Recollections card stock, and then placed the popsicle layer on top. The whole kit and caboodle was then placed onto a Recollections square kraft card base. I finished the card off by added some wink of Stella to the elephant's Santa suit and a sprinkling of sequins to the upper left and lower right corners.
Although I initially put no sentiment on the card, it felt unfinished, so I stamped a Merry Christmas sentiment from the retired Close to my Heart Christmas Love set (but any sentiment stamp will do!) and hand cut a speech balloon around it. I inked the edges of the speech balloon with some Tattered Rose Distress ink, and then lined it with some PaperTreyInk Dark Chocolate ink. TADA! That's it!
I also did a video (but, not a tutorial, sorry!) for this on YouTube. You can watch my other crafty videos there as well. Some of those ARE tutorials!
I entered this card into the challenge of the month over on the Crafter's Companion Facebook page: CraftersCompanionUSA
